The Indian premier league (IPL) is a T20 cricket
league introduced by Lalit Modi and Board of council for cricket in India
(BCCI) and currently being supervised by Rajeev Shukla.
It consists of players from all around the world, and
is one of the richest leagues in the world. The Premier League is the shortest form of
professional cricket with just 20 overs per innings, the league is well promoted and commercialised
on national TV. The brand value of the 6th edition of the IPL was
estimated US$2.99 billion. Previously the major league sponsor was DLF but
currently it is sponsored by PEPSI, who won with a bid of ₹396.8 crores over
AIRTEL. The league is broadcasted live on SET MAX in India and on YouTube
worldwide on the web.
The IPL is a T20 cricket league introduced in 2008. During
these 6 seasons of world class cricket entertainment the league has gone from
strength to strength and gained enormous success. There are majorly 8 teams participating
in all 6 seasons of the IPL.

From the
above statistics it is clear that The Chennai Super Kings are the most
successful team in the league, winning the trophy 2 times and reaching in
finals 3 times.
There are 5 ways that a franchise can
acquire a player, In the annual auction, signing domestic players, signing
uncapped players, through trading, and signing replacements. In the
trading window, the player can only be traded with his consent. The franchise
will have to pay the difference between the old contract price and the new
contract price. If the new contract is worth more than the older one, then the
difference will be shared between the player and the franchise selling the
player.
Some of the
team composition rules are:
Minimum
squad strength of 16 players plus one physio and a coach.

No more than 11 foreign players
in the squad and maximum 4 foreign players should be in the playing eleven.
·
Minimum of 14 Indian players must
be included in each squad.
·
A minimum of 6 players from the
BCCI under-22 pool in each squad.
IPL though
being very successful and entertaining but it has also gone under many
speculations. Many events of spot fixing, betting and money were witnessed,
where players were caught on the phone tapings or secret cameras exchanging
money or fixing actions on a particular ball.
